What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order for us to accurately provide a quote, we always require the basic information. This will include: The event date, the event type (Wedding, Birthday Party etc), where the event will be hosted. This helps give us an idea for the quotation, and specifics or additional information can always be discussed during the process.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
To start with, always make sure you can find verifiable reviews from your supplier. Read and judge on what your supplier can provide for you - some tend to chew off more than they can swallow! Secondly, ascertain whether or not your supplier has the correct licenses/insurances in order to perform. If they cannot provide these to you, I would be wary of whether they are to be completely trusted. Professional DJs will always have an in-date PAT/EET, PLI (Personal Liability Insurance) and sometimes ELI (Equipment Liability Insurance). The latter is more for the DJ and his equipment than anything else, but it's always good to see that they care just as much for their own equipment. Also, ask your supplier if they provide a contract of employment. Contracts are a good way to secure your booking and protect you from them just as much as them from you. A valid signed contract means you are protected should any complications or discrepancies occur (I.E They don't turn up!).
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
The Duke Roadshow Entertainment was started in a small local pub in Swindon, aptly named The Duke of Edinburgh. We started off with some small, cheap equipment providing local discos and karaoke nights within the pub. Within the first year we were often asked if we could provide a disco to people in others venues. Shortly after we officially named the business 'The Duke Roadshow' and have thus been providing discos for all occasions for 11 years.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We have gained a few bookings through using Add to Event and all our bookings have thus been successful. Our most recent booking we took was for a wedding in 2019 and we remember it fondly. We provided a full wedding setup with all the special dances and requirements, and we strived to deliver a memorable night for everyone and succeeded in doing so. The Bride and Groom were very happy with the service we provided although unfortunately did not return to leave us a review. It saddens us but it does happen. I would definitely recommend Add to Event to both suppliers and clients looking for suppliers. It does very well to filter out those who take our industry seriously vs those who do not.
