What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For us to give an accurate quote to a potential client, it’s always best to try and give as much detail as possible. Ideally the date of your event, the location of the event, a brief outline of the type of event you are hosting, a description of any “vision” you had in mind for the event decor, and whether it’s an indoor or outdoor location. Once we have this information we can give you a good idea of design options and costings.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Balloons are such a visual product, make sure to ask the provider for up-to-date photos of their recent work and check the social media to get an idea of their skill level. Make sure your balloon artist has public liability insurance. You never stop learning in this industry, does your artist attend continuation training sessions to sharpen their skills and keep up with current trends?. Finally, you want your balloon display to last throughout your event, does the artist use professional-grade balloons? You don’t want to be paying professional prices but getting a sub-par product.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Essex Balloon Studio came about after My wife (Marie) and I bought a packet of balloons for our son's birthday. I have always been interested in anything artistic having tried various different arts in the past including painting and photography. I started to search on the internet and couldn’t believe what could be achieved with a humble latex balloon. We immediately became addicted to creating bigger and better displays. We attended a whole array of training events with some of the best balloon artists in the business. Once we felt we were at a high standard Essex Balloon Studio began. The way our displays can transform a room and make our clients squeal with excitement will never get boring. We only wish we would have found balloons sooner.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Although we have not been on Add to Event for long it’s been an excellent way to find new potential clients and learn about their event. One event, in particular, we took part in was a book launch at a central London venue. We needed to create a balloon display inside the venue for a photo backdrop and also a display to go above the entrance door outside to highlight the entrance to guests. The client was a dream to work for. It was great to network with someone in the event industry and hope that we get the chance to work for them again. It was also a great opportunity to work in a new venue. Add to Event have good for our business so far, giving us opportunities that we may have missed if not part of the platform.
