What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to provide a comprehensive quote for live music entertainment at a wedding, private party, corporate function, charity ball or public event for a customer, we ideally need to know.....
- the event type, date, timing & full venue details, including whether the performance area is indoors or outdoors, the estimated number of guests, whether PA & lighting is needed and how many power sockets are available near to the performance area, what type of music is wanted, i.e. rock music or dance music, etc. and from which decades
From this information, we should be able to work out exactly what equipment and service are required and put together an accurate quote for The Disco Prophets to provide the live music entertainment (including free DJ service).

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Most importantly, ask the band how much experience they have at providing live music entertainment for the type of event you are planning and ask for references too. Ask them what kind of music they perform and whether they have any demos and sample set lists they can share with you. Ask them about their equipment and whether it is PAT tested. Ask them if they carry PL insurance and provide contracts and invoices. Check the contract carefully, making sure it is clear and fair, especially regarding cancellation clauses; make sure it accurately describes the services you want them to provide and that you can fulfil all your parts of the agreement.
Ask the band why they have chosen to perform the type of music they deliver and how it would suit the kind of event you are organising. Always be very clear about what you want them to do for you. If you want to take part in the performance or for them to play a special song, ask them if they can do this.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

We formed The Disco Prophets in 2012 because while all of us have day jobs, we all love performing live music and getting people dancing. We recognised that there were no bands in Nottingham performing dance music with a bigger band with multiple vocals. Over the last 8-9 years, we have filled that gap and performed dance music in a more authentic way than other bands. We chose the music we perform; because it is well-known and loved by most people of all ages and tastes and it is easy for people to dance to it. We believe all these ingredients make for an irresistible package that is perfect for all celebrations and events.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We have only recently joined Add to Event as a supplier and unfortunately, our first bookings were put off due to the Covid-19 Crisis; so we are still looking forward to delivering our first bookings through this platform.
However we have taken many bookings through other avenues over the last 8-9 years. Such as,
- performing at Nottingham Castle as part of Nottingham's New Year's Eve Celebrations in 2018
- headlining the opening night of Nottingham Riverside Festival in 2016
- a 50th Birthday party in the beautiful surroundings of Holme Pierrepont Hall in 2017
- performing at Jerry Green Dog Rescue's Xmas Ball in 2019
All of these and many more events at which we have performed since 2012 have been very successful; positive feedback from them is available on our website.
