What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For an accurate quote I need the following, the date, start and finish times, what size venue (so I know which equipment is needed) and of course the location of the venue so that I can work out my travel times. Other useful info would be whether the gig is indoor or outdoor and a good idea of the types of music you have in mind. Once I know all of this, I can give you a more accurate idea of the total cost.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask the DJ about their experience, too many people with a laptop and some software think they can DJ these days, but there is no substitute for experience. I have been DJing now for many years and experienced a lot in that time. Also ask about the equipment they are using - is it really a professional sound system that won't sound tinny or isn't sufficient for the size of the venue? Poor sound systems can send your guests home with ringing ears if they are being pushed too hard. At the end of the day you want an experienced DJ with a professional-sounding set up that also looks the part.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Taking up DJing as a young kid in the 90s means I have spent the last 25 years or so collecting music and playing out to a range of crowds. It was a natural progression a few years ago to do this as a full-time profession, as I was constantly being asked to play at people's parties and weddings who wanted a bit more than a cheesy DJ to give their occasion the WOW factor. Forward on a few years and I am DJing all over the country for both private and corporate events and I enjoy it so much, I love music so making a job out of it is so very satisfying.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I only joined Add to Event last year but have had a lot of bookings already. Hard to pick a favourite, but a recent gig DJing in a teepee at an outdoor festival was really good fun. The client wanted me to provide an Ibiza Cafe Mambo style vibe which is right up my street. Providing the soundtrack to 100's of people enjoying themselves while the sun was setting was something I can't wait to do again!
