What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The more information we can be given initially, the better our response will be and the more focused our quotes will be. Essential information is event date, location and site details, the estimated number of guests and their makeup (ie family group, 20-somethings on a hen night, a group of rugby players etc), an estimate of the budget helps enormously and any ideas on themes or style of the event are also valuable to us.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would suggest that the client makes a shortlist of the quotes that suit them best and then they phone the BBQ caterers to discuss their event with them to really ensure that what they are providing is what they want. Written messages are great for a record but talking over the phone is a much better way to communicate and then confirm in writing
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have a passion for the hospitality business; I did a hotel management course then worked for 5 long years for a large company. After leaving, I started my own catering business and have never looked back. I have catered for Princess Anne & the Duke of Kent and I have worked with the Hells Angels at their festival. I see my role as a general caterer who thrives on difficult situations; I love feeding 600 people in the middle of a field as well as 10 people for a dinner party
