What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For me to provide a comprehensive quote to a customer, I need to know the event date, time, location and venue type. It is also good to know the number of people attending rather than the estimated number of people wanting to be facepainted because in most cases almost everyone ends up wanting to have a go especially parents at children's parties. Knowing the type of event - children's party/ hen party/ wedding etc... and possibly a theme is also important so I can prepare the right tools to make the event more special.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I think in my type of business the images are crucial. They speak for themselves and give you the first feel on what to expect and what is the standard of their work. You can't taste or try the facepainting if it fits, so what you see is what you get. If possible check out their social media preferably on various platforms see if they are consistent and not just stolen random google images. See how active they are, if they post regularly and their posts are recent. More frequent posting give you an indication they are active and popular. Perhaps ask about how long they have been in this field and what experience they have.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I have started my facepainting 11 years ago when I organised a charity event for ECHO, a charity based at Evelina Children's Hospital to say thank you for the amazing work they do and for helping me and my husband through a very difficult time when our baby was born with congenital heart disease. I thought I'd try to do the facepainting myself at my event to raise more funds and I really enjoyed doing it. For few years after I did more charity events at first and then as I felt I was getting better and there was demand I started doing parties and festivals. Now it has developed into a true passion and I absolutely love painting and creating different designs every time. My face painting style is very organic, I don't really use templates it just evolves in my head and it's a surprise design every time. I love matching peoples clothes to the design I do and love a challenge of weird and wonderful things people want on their faces.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I had so many bookings through Add to Event, and I can honestly say they all have been great. I have been very lucky to paint for lovely families and groups of friends. The best feeling though is when those guests who never even contemplated having facepainting done, as parents and grandparents at children's parties suddenly see one brave mum have a side design done and the next thing I know they push through the crowd of kids to have it done as well. The amount of time I have to stay is longer as the grown-ups suddenly want their faces glittered is basically almost every time! It's such a great feeling when that happens and brings lots of smiles to all the faces not only children.
Add to Event has been great and most of my work actually comes from here. The other work I get is actually repeated customers from here or from the parties I have done thanks to Add to Event. So big thumbs UP!
