What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To provide a quote, i would need to know, the number of guests that the cake will be required to be portioned into, the flavours of the cakes (vanilla, chocolate, lemon etc) , the flavours of the fillings (lemon buttercream with lemon curd for example), what icing does the cake need to be covered with, (i.e buttercream or fondant), and what type of cake would be required i.e child's birthday cake shaped as teddy bear, three-tiered wedding cake, square christening cake.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

To find a good provider, I would be looking at the provider business to start. Are they a registered business, can they provide you with a rating from their local council and do they have insurance. This would give me a good indication of how seriously they take their business. I would then look for photos of their work (generally found on their website or Facebook, Instagram pages, you will either like it or not. If possible are their reviews you can read about the company, they can sometimes help. If you speak with the provider, do not be afraid to ask lots of questions, you will know from their answers if you have confidence in them.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I opened Tori's Cakes so that I could bake, bake bake.
I trained as a pastry chef and baker and have spent my whole working life in the food industry, but I was frustrated with the companies I worked for as we were not providing the service that the customer wanted, so I made the choice to have my own business where I could listen to the customer and tell them yes, I can do that for you.
I have never looked back and have created some amazing pieces of work for very happy customers, it is the most rewarding job you can have.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I haven't had a booking yet, as quite new so looking forward to my first one very soon but so far the process has been very easy.
