Monty's Maggot English Ceilidh & Country Dance Band
Monty's Maggot is a traditional ceilidhs (pronounced kay-lee) & country dance band who perform in and around Oxfordshire as well as further afield. Playing primarily for English ceilidhs, country dances or barn dances, Monty's Maggot suit best a wedding, party or event with a traditional or folk vibe, or an event which strives to be that little bit difference. They can even offer a different set of songs and performances for smaller, more intimate occasions requiring traditional music.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
Please tell us about the event, such as the type of event, purpose, audience profile and numbers, client 'vision' for the event, date, timings and finally venue (location, hall/marquee, floor surface, power, parking). From this we can provide a quote and then discuss creating the 'environment for success' (we will send our ceilidh/country dance planning guide to clients).
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The most important things for a successful ceilidh or country dance are setting the right expectations for guests (don't send yankee line dance photos if you're holding an English ceilidh!), having a safe dance floor, and not 'splitting the party' (don't stop a dance for a meal, try and serve drinks in the dance hall area - not in a separate large bar that will suck people into it). Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I've played folk music for many years - I love the drive of English country dance tunes. One of England's best known fiddlers told me I should be in a band, so I started one with him in it.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I've just signed up to Add to Event, but when we get a booking I'll write a review and tell all the other good bands, callers and artists I know to sign up! I am really looking forward to our first booking!
