What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

I will need to know car parking and access details (i.e if it is free and nearby or NCP and a mile away). If there are children at the event that have special needs, or if there are any who are easily frightened. Finally I encourage a phone conversation because it is only then that I can compose the event to meet their detailed vision for the event.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When it comes to a small children's birthday party the provider should be sufficiently experienced to meet a requirement within reason with the primary goal of everybody enjoying the party!

What other people say is important but understanding that children have quirks and their own ideas about what they want is key - have they been involved in the process? Finally the biggest worry seems to be whether or not the entertainer will turn up and be on time as parties are stressful for adults, so arriving in good time with a smile or on your face and an attitude of helpfulness is really important.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I have been a children's entertainer for over thirty years. Originally I was a youth and community worker and I saw how universally enjoyed circus skills are in the UK so I started a circus school for children in the inner city of Leeds ( and it's still going!), which I ran through the week. I then started doing parties and street events. I trained and worked in a real circus for the first three years and latterly I have incorporated my skills as a teacher to included mindfulness as part of what I do.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Last Sunday I worked at an event where the local church was opening a community centre for isolated families in Oldham. I was warmly welcomed and although it was a long, busy day the volunteers were so engaging and it was just such a pleasure to work for them. I did far more than I normally do and even did a show in the town square to bring more people in to their event.
