Carl John provides magic shows for people of all ages and has been performing magic shows around Wales for over 25 years. This wealth of expertise has resulted in him having an extensive repertoire of show types and abilities, meaning he is equally comfortable performing for small children as he is for teenagers and adults.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To help the client to get the most from my service, I do need to know a few things such as where,
when and what time. Is it a outdoor event or indoor event and is it for children or adults? Also what is their budget with this, because I can make a program of entertainment tailored to their requirements.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
First thing, research if you are going to book someone look them up first. Have they got any reviews on this site or any others first? And while a good price is important, is cheap the best? Just because they offer a good package is it really worth compromising on quality?
Is it suitable for your event? A three hour disco for £50 sounds great but how long are the kids going to enjoy that for? How long before they start to run around and you're left with 30 bored children?
So really think about how they will fit into your entertainment needs, talk to them, ask questions. Are they PLI covered, for example?
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I started at 18 years old, I'm now 43 and I'm still going strong. Thanks to my magic I have been everywhere. I have performed in castles, army bases, caves and even while standing in a bath. Not the city of Bath but an actual bath. It is the greatest job in the world, seeing people's faces light up with amazement at what I can do, no matter their age. It's that which makes this the greatest job in the world and why I do it.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have had so many jobs from Add to Event it's hard to find just one. If I had to chose one it was a rugby club in Caerphilly. I found the place and walked into a room with 40 screaming rugby kids. It was amazing - I got them under control in moments. The client was amazed as they had another entertainer and he just about got out with his life from what I was told. They even left a great review of me.
Thanks to this platform I am now able to branch out in to Mind Reading and Grown Up Magic.
