What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The more information a client can provide for an event, the better I am able to put together a package of ideas that I hope will give the client the best possible combination of activities to make their event a success. Once the basic information has been confirmed - time, date, place, number of children attending, and age range, then information regarding parking, access to the performance area from your vehicle i.e. stairs, lifts etc. can be vital in anticipating setting up time and clearing away afterwards. It may also influence the time required to be spent at the venue, and the type and amount of equipment suitable to bring to that event. Also, provision of electrical supplies, especially for outdoor events, can again influence the choice of audio equipment required, and therefore reflect on the quotation being prepared.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The most important aspect of hiring someone to provide a service, is that the client must have complete confidence in the supplier, and know that the choice of supplier was the right one. Points to look out for, therefore are: is the supplier accessible? i.e. not just a mobile number or web address, but full postal address and a landline telephone number can help give confidence. Has the supplier been recommended to you, or is known in your community? Also, never give credit card details or pay anything other than a small deposit until all work has been satisfactorily completed.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I was an engineering technician who enjoyed working as a children's entertainer as a part time job/fund raiser. Following a period of ill health, I had to retire from my job but became a children's entertainer as my full time job. That was 26 years ago and I'm still here!

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I was asked to provide entertainment for a local company who was organising a fun day for the children of their employees. My communication with the company through Add to Event was very positive and professional, and my duties on the day clearly explained and agreed upon. The organisers of the event at the company business premises on the day were very helpful, and the children who attended clearly had a happy time. I was paid very promptly, and hopefully may get the chance to work with the company again.
