What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

Firstly, the potential client has to have a date in mind, rather than just ask for a quotation as a guide - this is because the date largely dictates the price. We need to know the venue as each venue type has it's own problem areas. Parking, stairs and general health and safety issues. Once the client has made their requirements known, and only then, can a viable quotation be given.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Firstly, have a realistic budget and don't just ask for a price. Professional DJ's require and like to generate a trust element from the outset and this works both ways. Discuss your requirements openly, ask for suggestions and do not be pressured into booking with them.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

We originally started in 1964 and ran a very successful travelling discotheque as they were known then. I took a break for a number of years whilst working in a high powered commercial setting. I returned to being a DJ 25 years ago in 1992 when I realised I was missing the thrill of seeing people enjoy themselves dancing. The introduction of digitised media made for an easier re-entry into the industry. I have made a very successful return, and have received glowing testimonials to my music knowledge and my history of working with so many of the music legends.
