DJ K is an experienced pub, club and mobile DJ. Here he shares a bit about his story and how he got into the industry, as well as some top tips on what makes a great DJ. Read on to find out more!
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me to be able to provide an accurate and comprehensive quote for the customer, it is important to know the date of the event, the location and the duration. As well as this, the type of event, such as wedding or party as well as any other relevant details such as music choice, estimated number of guests. Those are the key points, however knowing if it is indoor or outdoor also ensure I can quote for the correct equipment.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would always recommend asking the questions that are on your mind, it is always better to be up front about your questions or concerns so they can be addressed and resolved. Moreover, if you are looking for a style of music then be prepared to offer potential songs that you enjoy. Such as, if you where to request "80s music" then be prepared for questions around that such as particular artists or styles, as of course the 80s is a very wide selection with many bespoke offerings. So it is important that you as the client help portray your expectations and it's important your DJ listens and asks sensible questions around this. Without this then you can not be sure they understand or will meet your expectations.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
So, I started in the music world when I was a young child in a choir, after quickly realising I was not cut out for singing I moved onto playing instruments, I started with guitar and then wanted to try a new challenge with bass guitar. Once I had been doing this for a few years I started working in a nightclub and become friends with one of the DJs. This ignited my passion for DJing and with his assistance and guidance I started DJing at home. Once I realised I had the hang of it I started to invest in new hardware and got myself a residency in a night club and the rest is history.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
So, my most recent booking is probably the one to talk about! I was working with a lady who was planning her sons 21st House party. Both her and her son where extremely specific in the music tastes they had and knew what they wanted. It was a brilliant setup they had with a marquee in the garden, they took the intermediate setup with laser addons and had a fantastic time.
I uploaded the footage and photos I took of the event and from that have had the family and the guests who arrived share the post and like the page as well as some fantastic reviews online from the family.
