What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order to provide the most suitable service at a competitive price, I require the event date and exact times, a short explanation of the type of event the customer is hosting, the estimated number of guests, the secured venue's location and whether it's an indoor or outdoor event. From this information, I can use my experience and expertise to put together a suitable package to meet the customer's requirements.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
DJ'ing is a service. This can make choosing the right company incredibly tricky, especially if you have no knowledge in that area. Therefore, I would recommend only asking questions that will be relevant to you, eg. do you have questions about the music they play or any specific tastes? Be clear about the type of service you want or expectations you have, eg. do you want a loud, clubby experience or background music for socialising? Consider the price, but don't be driven solely by the fee; I would advise looking for an 'average fee' from the quotes you receive and then look for the services that best suit your needs. If a company has a few good reviews, pictures that represent the services you require and promptly respond to your correspondence with helpful information, they are certainly worthy of consideration. Where possible, a telephone conversation or face to face meeting can be incredibly useful in finding the right provider, but that all depends on your preferred method of communication! :)
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I started Mobile DJ'ing by mistake! I've always loved music, equipment and DJ'ing but had never thought about running a business. After taking one booking for a friend, I was hooked by the desire to do better. That lead me to buy top of the range equipment, obsessing about technology and learning about popular music. At that point I was invested financially and emotionally, taking pride in the service that I offered and getting satisfaction from the positive feedback I received. To this day, I still buy too much equipment, I am very proud of the services I offer and am confident in the skills I have acquired from many performances to a wide range of audiences.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Finding new customers has been the most challenging aspect of my business. Add to Event has been sending me potential clients every day since signing up! All of the customers I have gained from the website have been fantastic and the income from the work has allowed me to apply for more events! One job that I remember vividly was a Birthday in North London. The customers were friendly and expressed satisfaction with my service, which was great.
