What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a comprehensive quote, we need to know the event date, the type of event, the estimated number of guests and the venue (ideally the number of people the room can accommodate). It's important to know whether the party will be indoors or outdoors. We have done lots of each and can provide our own generator and gazebo for those outdoor parties. We have sound systems of various sizes and will determine which best suits your event and provide a competitive price accordingly. Please bear in mind that the supplier pays to receive your contact details so the information, the better.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Obviously you will want to get the best service at the best price and we do appreciate that cost is the driving factor for a lot of people. Before making a purchase, we personally look at customer reviews to check that customers were completely happy with the service. Some providers offering low-cost quotes may not have a lot of experience so check that they have a good pedigree of service. Check their website and social media to gain a pattern of good service (and behaviour). You wouldn't want to chance hiring an inexperienced DJ for your wedding as those memories will last a lifetime. We put a value on the service we provide and this is not 'cheap' but hopefully, it is reasonably priced and we will try and work around your budget.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Urban Central Sounds started as a continuation of what had already been established long before. When we got married, we re-branded some of our existing businesses to form a collaboration of skills from mobile, club & radio DJ events to marketing & PR. The former brand, Soul Inspiration now focus on deep & soulful house. Soul2Sole focusses on gospel music. We wanted to state that we can play whatever music you want but this is what we really enjoy - urban sounds, much of which is found in the Top 40 charts and this is why we are the favourites for sweet 16th, 18th, 21st and 30th birthday parties. We also cater to African and Indian events. There are many DJs out there playing 80s music and we also have the means to provide for this service. Whatever genre of music we play, we like to have a fun time.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
There have been so many events through Add to Event and we are pleased that all our clients have been satisfied with our service. Weddings are so special to us, that we really pull out the stops to make them extra special. One wedding, in particular, didn't quite start out as planned. The hotel had back-to-back receptions and the first one was running late so we were all waiting outside. We were a little concerned because we were unable to set up earlier so we had a short time window to set up. Normally we always have the equipment set up so there's no disruption to the wedding hosts. When we got inside, we found our space was taken up by band equipment. We didn't expect the band to be setting up in the space we had been allocated. Luckily the hotel had a booth and they said we could plug into their system. As a qualified engineer, I made this space work for us and improvised with our equipment (most of it stayed in the car). Actually we were able to set up quicker and the party was able to go smoothly. We played 90s R&B, gospel and soul/disco. They even had a 'soul train line' (like on the movie hitch). We had a great time. Five years later, the couple contacted us as it was their anniversary and they thanked us as they were reminiscing on the wedding experience and noted that we were a key part of those happy memories.
