What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide the best possible quote from an organiser, the request should outline the event date, start/end time, venue name, what occasion the party is for, expected number of guests and a few lines about the type of music required. From this, a robust and fixed quote can be sent. Liaison with the client after securing the job will enable me to establish more about the event and anything I need to know about the person/s the party is for.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
For a customer, I'd want to know what service I can expect for my money. On paper, DJs appear to offer the same basic service so I'd want to know what makes "you" stand out? Will the provider be available in the weeks and days beforehand to answer any questions regarding music, lighting, PA usage and generally to reassure, what can be a quite stressful organiser, that everything will be ok.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
From when I was a little boy, I was playing records to my family & pretending to be a DJ. This love of music (all music) hasn't faded with age & when the opportunity came to leave the corporate world of business, I jumped at the chance to live my life-long ambition & make a living out of entertaining people by playing music they wanted to hear. My Aiwa stereo radio cassette player has been replaced with the latest Pioneer DDJ Controller & abruptly cut off song endings, before the disc jockey talks, have succumbed to smooth, seamless transitions.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
The number of opportunities to quote on this platform is enormous, so much so you can pick & choose accordingly. One recent booking that I quoted for was a University Society Annual Ball. This was a little different from the usual wedding or birthday party. The organiser had been let down and was in need of a DJ at short notice. The venue was plush and the guest numbers were large so I replied and got the gig. The host had done a great job in arranging the ball, there was a meal, jazz band announcements and then the music. The guests were students (18-21) with a very diverse taste in music - I was taking requests for dancehall, the latest hip hop, cheesy 70s disco, rock...you name it. But the dance floor was packed, the guests were having an amazing time and I was so glad I took the gig. The reviews and feedback afterwards were fantastic and included comments like "I wish the party could've gone on longer", but best of all was "can I book you for next year's event".
