What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The main items needed to prepare a quote are; Location, Duration & Involvement. Date and exact location can be confirmed at a later date but an idea of the county is always helpful. Also, as planners we can ask to work on 'on the day' logistics or involved in the full event planning process, obviously these have very different rates.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Event planning is very much a personal thing, your 'product' is you so ultimately the planner and client need to click on a personal level to ensure that the planning process goes as smoothly as possible. Often an Event Planner will have a wide range of suppliers they will call upon so if you don't like a supplier you can change them but if you don't get on with the planner you are back to square 1... have a meeting, or a call and have a chat first, you will know if it someone you can work with.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have planned events since I was 16, starting at sports clubs and then college. I then undertook an Events Management Degree. After 10 years working in Corporate Events, I decided to go it alone and for the past 5 years I have been planning events, both Corporate and Private on a contract/consultancy basis. I love what I do, meeting people and getting to know them and their story/vision for an event is the best part of my job and truly do not know what I would do if I wasn't running vanHeil Events.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
This platform is great - both as a supplier and as a buyer. The majority of my business comes from Industry contacts/word of mouth so breaking in to the social/ wedding event market has been more of a challenge - Add to Event has allowed me to pitch for Charity and Wedding work and I have a couple of very exciting new projects coming up this Summer that I would not have been visible to me without the site.
