What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
Events are like any other industry in that there are super cheap options and high-quality alternatives. There are few things worse than someone trying to sell you a week in New York when you've enough money in your pocket for an overnight at Butlins. If you can let us know how much you're comfortable spending it saves us telling you about a service you would love but can never afford. A good example is hiring a DJ. Our packages start at £100 and go up to ten times that amount, sometimes more when we're asked for a DJ who is a household name. You may not know how much a service costs but you will know how much you are comfortable spending.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Here are a few top tips for making sure you get a great service. Always check all available reviews and ask some technical questions.
If you're getting sound/speakers ask the supplier what the total RMS or SPL is. If they don't know they aren't a pro. RMS and SPL are two methods the industries use to measure how consistently loud speakers are. Make sure they're able to tell you. Having a speech where the back of the room can't hear or a disco that isn't powerful enough to get people dancing can be a nightmare.
If you're hiring a projector or screen ask the supplier how many lumens it is. If they don't know they aren't a pro. To understand the brightness of a lightbulb we often measure it in watts. To understand how bright a projector or screen is we use lumens. If you're showing images of any kind in a bright room you need a really bright projector. A domestic projector would typically be around 2500 lumens. Professional grade projectors start at around 4500 lumens.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I've worked in radio, television and entertainment my entire adult life. I love working in the entertainment industry and understand how vitally important each and every show is to the people involved. The simplest ways to get repeat business and great word of mouth is to over-deliver and super service every client. You can see we do that by reading our reviews both on here and across the web.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
What I love about Add to Event is the diversity of the jobs we receive. We've had everything from a single projector screen for a film company through to an international convention for hundreds and hundreds of delegates. The requests are incredibly different and you never know what you're going to find in your inbox: a job for under £50 or one for several thousand. I've recommended the site to performers, photographers, event caterers. It's great for the industry and the public.
