What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order to put together the best possible event for our client, it is important to get a good understanding of their expectations. This includes their intended budget.
Once we have established what is it they would like the event to look like, we can use our skills and experience by working together to add value and ideas to make the event even better.
We maintain regular communications with our clients and they are kept informed at every major decision stage.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Make sure you like the look of their previous work and ensure their style matches what you are looking for. Whilst most event planners are adaptable, having the same core ideas and expectations of an event puts the clients at ease. Knowing their money is in safe trusted hands with a company that shares the same vision.
Also, check that they work with trusted industry recognized suppliers, you want your event to be safe and reliable.
Sustainability is very important now more than ever, check to see if the supplier has green goals in place, and what they actually do to actively work towards them.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

As Creative Director of The Oxford Event Planner, it has always been a goal of mine to start my own business. I have spent the last 9 years working as a Chief Stewardess travelling the world on board some of the worlds largest superyachts, providing a personal 5* service to high profile owners and guests. From onboard parties for 200+ people, onboard weddings, to exclusive private dining parties on the beaches of the Caribbean, I've created and carried our exceptional events for any occasion you can think of! The time has come to give up my life jacket, work under my own company name and create events with greater reach allowing more people to enjoy them.

My partner Mike (Operations Director) in contrast has worked in the private security/private-public safety industry for most of his 40-year career. He is the brains behind operations and makes sure everything runs safely, professionally and cost-effectively. He has absolutely no interest in table cloth colours!

Together we have complementary strengths that make our business a sound success. We are both passionate about the industry and believe our interpersonal skills, and experience makes us a cut above the rest.
