What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To work out a comprehensive quote to a customer for face painting we need 3 things. The date of the event, the time of the day and the full address of the event including postcode. We also need to know the approximate amount of people we will be painting, this way we can advise you on how many hours you would need.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Always ask how many faces they can paint in an hour and whether they have Public Liability Insurance. You should ask to see examples of their work and provide a list of reviews and clients if possible. Professional face painters will always have a website with all these details on. Find out about their health and safety policies and most importantly, how they clean their equipment. Brushes should be cleaned with Isopropyl Alcohol after every job to remove 100% bacteria. Sponges should be washed in the machine after every job. Also ask what glitter they use, as no-one should use anything other than a cosmetic grade - not glitter for cards and crafts.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

My FacepaintFX business was formed out of my Makeup Artist background. Creating avant-garde looks for the media industries gave me insight and flare. After painting with my sister for her school fete I got the bug and have never looked back. Children give you instant reactions and it's magical to see someone look in that mirror and give the biggest smile back. I totally love my job and wouldn't do anything else.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I have had so much work from Add to Event platform and would highly recommend it. The best face painting job was from a client who didn't really know what she wanted, we corresponded easily through the site and finally came up with a spaceship themed party. They had decorated the entire hall out with the space theme and lights. I felt like I had made that little boys dreams come true as it was a complete surprise to him - his face just lit up!. I suggested getting some black lights to enhance the neon paints in the dark which gave such a WOW factor. The kids didn't want me to leave, I had great 'thank yous' from them and wonderful reviews from the client & parents.
