What a cheek!
What a cheek! offer face painting for all occasions in Maidstone, Kent and beyond. Here they share some advice on what to consider when booking a face painter for your event.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me, the date and time is key, how many guests and the age range, and whether they would like children or adults to be facepainted. Lots of kids' parties work to a particular theme, so it's useful to know if there is one. It's also helpful to know whether the client has a budget in mind, as sometimes I don't think the person requesting has a genuine idea of how much the average rate for a face painter is. If it's a community or corporate event rather than a private party it is useful to know whether and where the event has been publicised to get an idea of footfall.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The types of event they have painted at previously, to be able to get a good fit for their event.
Whether they are expecting full face paints of smaller hand/arm/cheek designs to give a good idea of how many people can be painted in that time.
Whether the painter has their own equipment (table, chairs, gazebo etc) for community events.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
What a cheek! face painting developed from a fun hobby to something that grew into a passion and a business as I learnt more about painting techniques and saw the joy it brings to the people I paint. It's an opportunity to be creative while at the same time building a career where I get to meet all kinds of people of all ages and backgrounds. I knew I needed to get set up with the right materials, experience, equipment and marketing and away I went!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
The Add to Event site is very practical and intuitive - I get notifications of jobs that might be suitable and can pick and choose which I respond to. It's useful to be able to see how many others have quoted for a job to help make a call on what's right for me, as well as distance and other requirements for the client. I'm learning as I go along but it's great to have somewhere I can actively search for opportunities outside of the usual marketing and promotion I do by myself.
So far, so good! I have my very first booking coming up this weekend and can't wait!
