A professional face painter who ranges from fun children themes to baby bump painting.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The are many variables in my job. I usually state I can paint approx. 10/12 children per hour, but that depends on the complexity of the design, how confident your child is and well...... just how still they can sit!! Before I can quote correctly I like to know, where am I needed? When? Any themes to work to? How many children/faces will need to be painted? How long do you need me? All this information can really help me give an accurate quote.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If I were to hire a Face Painter I would be looking for certain things. There is a huge difference between someone who paints in their spare time to a professional. Don't be afraid to ask to see some examples of their work. Make sure it is their work! Look for watermarks or any other info. A genuine business will go the extra mile to put your mind at rest. If someone is cheap, I mean miles cheaper than others, there's a reason for it. Are they insured? Do they practice good cleanliness skills? Personally, use one sponge per child to avoid any cross-contamination. I constantly clean my work area, brushes and hands. My water is changed regularly. Hiring an unexperienced or cheap face painter can cause huge health issues. I use the highest quality cosmetic grade paints, glitters and gems. On a serious note, something as small as using the wrong glitter, such as craft, can cause huge health implications if gotten in the eye, from redness, soreness at best , to a scratched cornea or even blindness. I've also seen others using acrylics on the skin! These can cause burns on your child's skin. Cheap isn't always best...
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I began face painting over ten years ago. I was 'volunteered' by my son's PTA. I loved it. Face painting is a fast paced industry. New items constantly hitting the market along with new fashions, mean I'm always researching and experimenting with different ideas to give my clients the best possible experience.
I create each design myself, taking great care to select bright, beautiful colours that will compliment each other. I research the latest glitters, ensuring they are biodegradable and safe for the skin. I test all my products on myself before I use on any client. Once I am happy with a design I practice and tweak it until I'm able to recreate that design within minutes. It can be a lengthy process!
Face painting for me, is a way of life. Something I've always done. I paint every day, practising and honing my craft. This I believe reflects in the high quality of my work.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I had several bookings through Add to Event. They've all been successful and fun. The clients were happy and impressed with the quality of my paintings. Add to Event is a great way to link up businesses and customers, I've recently done a charity event in Burton on Trent, it was a huge success, and from that booking, I was contacted by someone at that event to book me for a birthday party. I've also had a small birthday party through Add to Event and that too was a great booking. I check my emails daily for updates from Add to Event and respond to a high percentage of them.
