Wild Food Kitchen
Wild Food Kitchen provide a wide range of street food from their rustic, vintage HY van throughout Cornwall and beyond. Though they specialise in 'wild food', they also serve more typical culinary staples such as burgers, fries and salads as well as other, more unusual food like falafel. Where possible, the food is grown at and prepared on their own family organic farm, adding a local twist.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order to provide the best and most comprehensive quote we would ideally need to know the date of the event, the location of the event and the venue, the number of guests attending the event. Is the event inside or outside, what type of food is the organiser looking for and what kind of service is required? With that information we can put together a comprehensive quote for the organiser.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would ask about what food they provide as well as their background and experience in the field. The best and most unique caterers will have a passion for what they do which should be easy to pick up when they describe their business. Ethos is important too - what is their stance on being sustainable and using environmentally friendly products? Do they use local produce or do they source their produce from abroad? Do they buy in pre-made food or make from scratch? I think these points are really important.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
The Wild Food Kitchen started from my love of food and passion for nature. I love being outside, whether it be local woodland, field, moor or cliff top. Living in Cornwall and growing up on a farm it has become second nature to me to be outside learning and exploring the landscape around us. As a teacher on school field trips I became fascinated by the wild edible plants that grew along the cliffs and paths and how they were eaten by our ancestors as part of their regular diet. Over the years I learned of the many different wild edible foods there were, their tastes and above all their nutritional benefits to those who eat them. After experimenting with different flavours and recipes I decided I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with others in food. Now we create beautiful and rustic food with locally sourced produce, wild game and foraged food for weddings, parties and events.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We've had many bookings from Add to Event so far and they have all been wonderful. One particular was a beautiful wedding set on clifftop over looking north Cornwall on spectacularly sunny day. We provided a three course meal using local and wild ingredients followed by an evening service serving street food. Both services went extremely well and we had such good feed back on the day and everybody was very happy including us! Add to Event is a great resource and I would recommend it to anyone.
