What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To be able to provide a comprehensive quote we need to know the date and time of the event and how long we are needed to be there. A description of the type of event is helpful so we can tailor our service to the customer's needs and we need to know how many guests are expected. We also need to know where the event will be and what sort of access there is so that we can plan what equipment we need to bring with us. Finally, it is helpful to have an idea of what budget they have for the event so that a relevant quote can be put together.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You need to find out what type of product is being offered and whether it suits your needs. It's important that a food supplier has a good hygiene rating so ask what theirs is and also whether they can cater for special dietary requirements. Many of your guests might miss out at an ice cream cart if it didn't provide at least one dairy-free alternative and a gluten-free alternative to the regular cones. Don't be afraid to ask if you can visit the provider at an event so you can see them in action and taste what they are offering to make sure you enjoy it and to see that they run things professionally. It's also very important to make sure the price they quote covers everything you want.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Our family started Granny Smith's Ice Cream after running the ice cream stall at a local fete. We enjoyed it so much we decided we'd like to do it again so set about renovating an old trailer to work from and finding some delicious artisan ice cream to serve at events all around our local area. We've had a great deal of fun setting it up and are very proud of what we have achieved. We love to tailor-make a package for each customer so that they can have exactly what they want at their event. Ice cream makes people smile and doing something that makes people happy is very rewarding!

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We had a wonderful booking through Add to Event to attend a mini-festival to serve ice cream and candy floss to the guests. It was a really busy afternoon but great fun and everyone seemed to love not only the ice cream and candy floss but also our little trailer and even our themed earrings! We had fantastic reviews and despite the awful weather, it was a huge success. We tell other suppliers that we meet about Add to Event and will continue to recommend the platform.
