What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

In order for us to provide someone with a quotation for a marquee we would need information about the site conditions initially ie; is it grass/tarmac/concrete, also how level is the site and are there any staking-down restrictions.

We would then need information about the number of guests in attendance and what type of event you are planning, so for a wedding, for example, we can allow for all guests to be seated with stage/bar/dancefloor/catering annexe allowances. We would then need to know about furniture and lighting preferences and whether you would also like provisions such as toilets and generators etc.

All this said, by far and away the best thing to do initially for any larger event enquiry is to carry out a site visit so we can determine all the above criteria and also make site-specific recommendations. It is notoriously difficult to 'cold quote' a marquee for an event as we have so many options available.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Firstly I would advise caution in being tempted by a quote that seems very cheap. Marquees, as with anything else can vary hugely in terms of quality of installation, the quality of the marquees themselves and the cleanliness and general order of the kit, not to mention the service you will receive from the company. You will tend to get what you pay for, a cheap company will not be able to afford to keep their kit in good condition and replace regularly.

It is often wise to dig into a company's social media to get a real picture of what you are likely to receive from them.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Rob and I decided to start Marquee Vision straight after finishing at Birmingham University. We had both worked for several companies since the age of 17 during the summer holidays. Along the way, we saw companies being run very poorly and inefficiently with a lack of focus on providing high-quality installations.

We saw a bit of a gap in the market and we were sure we could make a better go of things. Since its conception, Marquee Vision has grown every year and we are still loving what we do. We are always forward-thinking and looking to invest in new marquees, furniture and lighting to meet the needs of our clientele.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

We have only had a couple of booking through Add to Event so far but the reviews back have been very favourable. This platform is very price driven so we are working on how to get across our quality levels compared to others on here. We are still enjoying the challenge. We are impressed with the number of enquiries that seem to be submitted.
