What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The more information about the event is provided - the quicker I can determine the best-suited package for the particular event and provide a quote. It's absolutely crucial for me to know the event date and location, so I can check availability. The estimated number of guests and description of your event really helps me tailor my services to your needs and recommend you the most suitable package.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If I wanted to hire a magician the first thing I would do is watch their promo video. Instead of watching what tricks they are doing, I'd be looking out for little things like:
- whether the performer is dressed appropriately for the event and looks professional
- whether they look friendly and approachable
- whether people around them are having fun and getting involved
The next step for me would be looking for Google reviews of previous clients to see whether the people who actually paid for their services were satisfied. It is also always a good idea to arrange a call with the performer to discuss your event - after all you are inviting a stranger to an event that's important for you, so it only makes sense to get to know them a little and make sure you feel good about them attending.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I've started doing magic as a kid and spent 7 years doing it purely as a hobby just because I enjoyed giving the feeling of wonder to people around me. It just made me extremely happy to be able to affect someone's day in such a positive and emotional way. As you can imagine, after doing something for so long you get pretty good at it and people started asking me to perform for their events, which is when I started doing it professionally. However, magic isn't my only passion in life, which means I don't perform at events because I need to pay my bills, neither do I overbook my calendar to a point where the next show becomes "just another show". Instead I do a select number of performances in a month, which allows me to always bring my best game to your event, putting all of me into my performances and I truly believe that my clients feel the difference.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
One of my favourite bookings secured through Add To Event was a surprise birthday party. My client wanted to make his wife's anniversary truly memorable and threw a massive party in their private house with over 100 people attending. He already had food, portable bar and music sorted and was just looking for something to create the buzz and break the ice between the guests. A few emails later, I and my photographer were on the case mingling with the guests, blowing the minds of both kids and adults at the party and capturing those moments as a memory of this day for them. Since then I've already had a couple of attendees of that party contact me with an enquiry about a different event mentioning how much fun they've had on the day.
