What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For us to provide a quotation we need the event date, amount of guests expected, location and what the event is for. If we have availability, we now need to know if the marquee is a tight fit, if it is situated on hard standing or grass and if there are any access issues. Once we have this information, you will be given a price and we can swap and change different styles and layouts, tailoring the marquee to your specific requirements.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Unless you are a marquee expert, choosing a supplier can be a little risky. People often think that marquees are 'like for like' but this is far from the truth. The most important thing I would advise a customer to ask is "Is the marquee a clear-span aluminium structure?". If it is not you are being quoted on a product that is likely to disappoint you. The next thing is to ask what type of flooring they use. We use a 20mm thick interlocking board, this is then laid onto a steel sub-frame or wooden bearers, dependent on ground conditions. This is a mid to top end product and personally I think that anything less than this is not good enough for a wedding. You can rest assured that your tall centerpieces won't fall over as people walk by the tables!

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Able Marquees was established 30 years ago by Herbert Hope, who loved erecting the old traditional marquees and soon found the Roder clear-span structure. After working alongside Herbie for 10 years, I took over in 2014 and incorporated the business into a limited company. We love to add the personal touch to a marquee, and go the extra mile to make sure the customer gets exactly what they want. We have a passion for perfection and all of our staff love what they do.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I recently secured a very large event in my local area and I am confident that the customer and I will have a very lucrative relationship and will be providing each other with useful leads moving forward. I pay lots of attention to Add to Event and feel that the platform can only grow from here, with the added bonus that if a job is not for me I don't have to spend time quoting, which means the jobs I quote for are within my area of expertise and my company can excel.
