What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
We need to know the date, the number of people expected and the location. Importantly for us we need to know whether there is room for our horsebox bar at the event, so whether it is inside or outside or a bit of both!
We need to understand the type of function so we can put together a quote with menus and photographs that are relevant.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask the provider about which drinks they are choosing to serve and why. We try to champion and promote local suppliers who we have a good working relationship with and like to think that we are gin connoisseurs!
Find out the price of the drinks in advance - it can be a real dampener if they are very costly, equally if they are too cheap you should ask yourself why? What will the quality be like?
Check if they have a minimum spend policy - we don't, but many bars do and this can serve as a nasty shock after your event.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
We got married 8 years ago and really enjoyed the experience of planning our wedding. We had our wedding at a beautiful country house spa hotel but we wanted something different that reflected our personalities so it was cocktail-themed - ie the tables were named after different cocktails, the flowers were in giant cocktail glasses and we designed our own menu which included our favourite cocktails.
Cathy has many years of experience working in pubs and bars and we thought it would be fun to design our own mobile horsebox bar so we can support other couples by taking the stress out of their big day and making it that little bit extra special for them, by designing their own personalised drinks menu and serving local artisan gins, sparkling wine and cocktails.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We had a lovely wedding last month for a young couple at a tythe barn in a country village. It was a beautiful occasion. We turned up early, got the bar looking gorgeous, festooned with sparkling lights and ensured each table had a personalised drinks menu on it so that the guests could peruse before coming up to the bar.
We prepared the welcome drinks (Pimms) ready for the guests arriving and quickly changed into our cocktail dresses ready to serve them.
We had had a consultation meeting with the bride and groom a few weeks before so knew which particular beers and wines their guests preferred and we happily talked the guests through our vast gin selection. The party went with a real swing!
We got a fabulous review and we are looking forward to other weddings as well as public and corporate events, most of which have been booked through Add to Event, who we suggest whenever we are asked for a different type of service or if we are already booked on the date a client is asking about
