Marvellous Disco provides quality mobile disco services to the North of England and Scottish borders specialising in wedding entertainment but can cater for any type of event, from a teenage birthday party up to a 90th birthday party - and everything in between. Their advice is to invest a little extra to get satisfaction from your DJ.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me to provide a comprehensive quote to a customer, I would require a minimum of three main details. The date of when your event is taking place, the location of where your event is taking place and the timings of when you would like our disco services to be provided. I will then use this information to send you a tailored quote.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Basically, you get what you pay for. The disco is typically the last thing your guests will remember from your special day. You can certainly get DJs who will come to you dirt cheap - but chances are, they aren't carrying a huge range of songs, they don't know how to mix, their equipment is likely not as good. Making that little extra investment in your evening's entertainment will make sure your guests have a fantastic time!
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I began my DJing 'career' when I was 17 in a nightclub in my home town of Alnwick, Northumberland. As well as being one of the resident DJs at this club, and others around town, I also started my own radio show on community station "Lionheart Radio".
After purchasing some basic disco equipment, I moved onto the mobile disco scene and was in high demand, playing at some of the most lucrative venues in the North East.
A few years passed and circumstances changed. Along side mobile discos, I also began to manage "Hedfone Party", a Silent Disco company owned by the company behind Marvellous Festivals. This saw me moving from my Northumberland home to Winnersh, Berkshire, to concentrate on operating larger scale Silent Disco events.
Once I arrived in the South I decided to team up with Marvellous to create a mobile disco brand in the home counties. I spent 3 years building up a great reputation in the area and pleasing many clients at various venues and events throughout the South East, you can see lots of testimonials from this era by clicking here. I also constantly upgrade my disco equipment, investing with a goal of creating a fantastic sound and light show, one of which I am very proud of.
I have had some great opportunities over the years, including DJing at the Geordie Shore house in Newcastle and for a 'Gypsy wedding' (which was aired on Channel 4). Also - none disco related, I took part in several episodes of BBLB and won the opportunity to become a voice of "Big Brother" for one day. This meant that I got to go backstage at the BB house and talk to the housemates via the diary room. An amazing experience.
In June 2013 I received the very exciting news that my ex-fiance was pregnant. Although I loved living in the South East of England, I am a Northerner at heart and we decided it was best to bring up Luella where our families are. (Also making it handy for those occasional babysitting jobs.) So for this reason, Marvellous Disco has now been back in the North East since 2013!
Since moving back up North, the business has gone from strength to strength and we have the pleasure to be regularly DJing in beautiful locations around the North East such as the Alnwick Gardens and Castle, Doxford Hall, Newton Hall and The Balmoral hotel in Edinburgh (along with many, many others).
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have been booked for several events through the Add to Event system, and much like all of the events that I have supplied discos for - the nights have been a huge success. I am more than happy to take on bookings via the Add to Event site.
