What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The key things to consider are as follows:
How many hours do you require?
Will the venue have easy access and parking?
Will you require extra sound equipment (if its an especially large hall for e.g.)?
What is the type of event? E.g., engagement party, wedding etc.
Once we know these details we can give you an accurate quote for your function.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The best thing to ask is what other similar functions they've performed at before. I wouldn't want someone DJing my wedding if they had no experience DJing specifically weddings, and neither should you. They are a special occasion and require a special set of skills, experience and equipment to get perfect on the day.
Equipment is also very important - you don't want someone turning up with an iPod and a cheap speaker they bought from Amazon. Good DJs will tend to cost slightly more than bad DJs but the difference in price is often worth it. If you've been quoted less than £200 for a Friday or Saturday you should ask yourself why the DJ is so cheap. Perhaps they don't have great equipment or are inexperienced.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I started DJing about 15 years ago as a second job during my Music Production degree. Once I had graduated, working in a studio for years making tea didn't appeal as much as DJing did, so I went full time as a party and wedding DJ.
Since then, I've DJ'd some incredible venues including Ministry of Sound, Troxy and The Waldorf Hotel to name but a few, and I've appeared on stage alongside Alexander O'Neal, Romesh Ranganathan and Milton Jones at various events and functions over the years.
I'm still going strong today, with a strong sense of customer focus and a passion for music that's stronger than ever.
