What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To be able to provide a comprehensive quote for a customer the information required would be the event type, date, hours the service is required as well as the location. One vital piece of information is the time I would be required to setup. For example with a wedding, the disco may only be required in the evening but due to the logistics of the venue you may be using the room for the wedding breakfast and setup would need to be much earlier in the day before proceedings start. Once I have all of the information I will be happy to provide a competitive quote.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
One piece of advice I always give a customer is to make sure they see either a photo or video of the suppliers set up. It is not uncommon for customers to go with the cheapest quote only to be let down on the day or for the DJ to use a table at the venue for their equipment - which is not professional. Always research a providers reviews - not only where you have seen them advertised but also other sources - for example, social media.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Mr M Events started to help my daughter's primary school where my wife runs the PTA. DJs were charging a lot of money for a very basic 2-hour children's disco. This was always something I wanted to do so it started from there. Then by word of mouth and social media alone over the proceeding 12 months I became fully booked every weekend without fail with often 4 parties over the weekend (a mixture of children's and adults). I am already booked for 12 events next year.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have completed a number of bookings through Add to Event. It's great as these are customers who would not necessarily have found me as not all work is local to home. One example was a 40th Birthday Party I recently completed and from the moment I phoned and spoke to the customer we got on really well. They explained their music likes and dislikes and from this information I could prepare my playlists for the event. On the night of the event, a number of additional song requests were received from both the customer and guests, all of which were accommodated. I received a lovely thank you email from them the following day and will remain in contact moving forward for any further events.
