What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

The most important thing I need to know, besides the when and where is the size of the wedding and the length of coverage you are looking for. Some people only need coverage for the ceremony (plus arrivals etc and photographs immediately afterwards) while others want the full day from soup to nuts (from bride preparations right through the reception to the first dance) Personally I quote for albums separately so the couple isn't paying for it up front, which helps them spread their costs.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look at their style of photography, but bear in mind few web portfolios will show anything like a full coverage of a wedding, concentrating instead on 'hero' pictures that work well out of context. Ask if they can show you a full wedding so you can see how they deal with group shots, ceremony images under challenging conditions etc.
Read their reviews, wherever they may be - you will get an idea of their personality and what they were like to have around on the day from customer feedback - and you should be able to decide if they will be a good 'fit' on your day.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I had been photographing weddings for a long time for someone else, and decided I really wanted to do it on my own account - the best decision I could have made. Now I just have to keep the clients happy rather than another photographer!
