Useless Quiz Night provide quizzes to local pubs and have run evenings on behalf of charities and are suitable for corporate functions. The Useless Quiz is a fun general knowledge quiz aimed at a range of ages and cleverness (or stupidness). The standard quiz is between 7 and 8 rounds and consists of general knowledge questions in a range of fields, music clips, a picture round and new games.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

To get the most accurate quote let me know the venue for your event, the date and time (or if you're a bit flexible), the estimated number of guests and what equipment is present and the venue vs. what you'd like me to bring myself. Specifically, PA equipment and microphones are often needed for the quizzes so an idea of whether I need to bring it with me, and what the venue has itself would be really helpful

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Remember not all quizzes are created equal. There's a big difference between Tipping Point and University Challenge. A good quiz master will have a range of questions so it's not too easy or too hard for anyone, though some set the level more intellectual/more pop-culture than others. The best thing to do is to have an email or phone chat with a potential quiz master to get a measure of their personality, their level of the quiz and to give them an idea of the kind of event and level of the quiz you're looking for too. A lot of the time quiz masters will host regular public pub quizzes at pubs too, and always worth attending to see them in action before you hire.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

Working in a pub that wanted to set up a weekly pub quiz, I decided to start putting together my own quizzes. It makes it much more fun and tailored to the people who come to the quiz. With a bank of quizzes written, I decided that only using them once was a lot of work for two hours of entertainment and decided to take the show on the road, presenting regular quizzes at pubs across Hertfordshire and one-off private events for all sorts of special events in London, Herts and it's surrounding areas.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

One booking that always stands out was a lovely event in a private room at an event in Westfield shopping centre. A work social for a group of colleagues looking to get together and have a laugh after work. With things like this, I know there's probably one or two people who aren't quiz lovers but just out for a laugh with colleagues, so it's really nice to get a lovely group of people where you can engage with those people and get them excited and invested in the quiz and make sure they have a good time too. But most of the guys were really up for it and the competitive banter was flying between the tables. When you're hosting something like this, you need to be active and engaging but then fade into the background at the right times so people can enjoy themselves. These guys just made it really easy to do that, and I've subsequently done another couple of quizzes for the same people who found me through Add to Event and it's always been a joy.
