Sumo Experience provide fully hosted sumo-wrestling suits and accompanying arenas in and around the Woking, Surrey area. Experienced staff members set up the arena and all of the equipment on-site and remain throughout the event to explain rules, keep score and keep everyone safe. Sumo Experience specialise in themed parties and events, and do not provide sumo suit hire by itself.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

I need a description of your event so I can assess whether it is something that matches the service I offer, as well as the projected time of day. Is the event for adults, children or mixed? It's useful to have an estimate of the number of participants and number of spectators. Lastly, as I offer a unique hosted service it's normal to have a conversation so that the customer understands how my events work before we can agree to proceed, so a contact phone number is invaluable.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I offer a unique party service so there is no one else. My speciality to run a fully themed and hosted experience. Often people don't realise that what I offer is available and are just looking to hire Sumo suits. I am very aware of the risks associated and hirers may not make the critical considerations clear up front. If you are just hiring suits, I recommend asking for a copy of the disclaimer that they will ask you sign later, up front. This will probably require that no one uses the suits 'under the influence' and detail the space that is required. There will be other requirements you need to comply with. This isn't pointless red tape as, like with any physical activity, there is an element of personal risk involved and a qualified host is invaluable in minimising risk.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started Sumo Experience over 10 years ago. I am a serial creative and I saw that there was a clear gap in the market that could take sumo suits out of the hire business and into the party business. I get high job satisfaction because children love it, parents are delighted by it, adults become children again, everyone thanks me - also, I get paid as well! On top of that I meet some fascinating people, what's not to like?
