Dreamcatcher Events is a small, friendly business specialising in bespoke stationery, prop and decor hire, sweet carts, cheese carts, popcorn machine hire, candy floss machine hire, and much more for weddings and all types of events. They also supply a list of checks you should make when hiring your own provider.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For us to provide a comprehensive quote, ideally we need the event date & time, number of guests & venue. It would also be very helpful if potential clients could include a rough idea of their budget. The type of event is also very important as we need to know if the client is paying or if they expect guests/the public to pay. There is no difference in our pricing structure between weddings, birthday parties and other events.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Always ask providers what is included in the service they are offering and whether they are able to accommodate special requests. It is very important that the provider has the correct equipment for the job, training to operate the equipment and that it is maintained to a high standard. They should also have appropriate insurances, equipment testing certificates and hygiene certificates where applicable.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Dreamcatcher Events was officially founded in 2016, although I have been designing wedding stationery for almost 14 years as a hobby. Our ethos is that great design should be accessible to everyone, which is why we have various options to suit all budgets. We have a large variety of stock designs, all of which are completely customisable and we also offer a bespoke design service at no additional cost.
We purchased our first candy cart in 2016 and have been expanding the business ever since. We now provide props & decor, personalised favours, cheese carts, popcorn stall and much more. In October 2018 we opened our shop, The Wedding Emporium, in Montrose, where we work with a number of other suppliers to provide a comprehensive service for all types of events.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We have had a lot of success through this platform and find it is much fairer and better than it's competitors. We have had a couple of bookings at the stunning Kinkell Byre, one of which was for the fantastic Bute Ball, held by The Bute Medical Society, one of the University of St Andrews oldest and largest societies. Their theme for the event being Cirque Du Soleil, they hired us to provide freshly made candy floss, which went down a storm with the guests, despite us getting covered in pink, sugary fuzz! This was also our first time using the candy floss machine, but I definitely think we nailed it! I have recommended Add to Event to all the suppliers we work with and know of many who have had similar success with it.
