Samantha Newson Photography provides a wedding & event photographer based in East Sussex. Their photography is described as natural, relaxed, colourful, fun and real, read on for more information plus advice on choosing a photographer for your big day.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To be able to provide an accurate quote I need to know the date obviously. I need to know how long the photographer is required for. It is useful to know the ceremony time too, epically if you are not sure if you require getting ready photos or not so I can give you different prices. I also need to know the location or locations and also if getting ready photography may also be wanted, the location for that too.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Anyone can cherry-pick and showcase their best work but you want to see how they photograph the whole day. So if their website doesn't seem to show a full wedding or only has a few select photos from each wedding then ask to see a gallery of their work. Make sure you are happy with their style of photography - don't book a photographer who is 'light and airy' if you like 'dark and moody' photography. Also make sure they have the relevant insurances, boring but essential.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
My husband teaches photography and is often asked if he can recommend anyone to photograph a wedding, well seeing as I love a wedding it seemed to make sense if I started a wedding photography business.
It's tiring but very rewarding after all the wedding celebration is just one day but the photographs last a lifetime and help remind you of all the wonderful memories you have of the day. I feel it is important to capture as much of the day as possible - not just the posed portraits and the key moments but all the little moments that happen throughout.
Being chosen to photograph a couple's special day is an honour.
I have both a GCSE and A level in photography - back in the days of film and darkroom!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
It's a real thrill when someone responds to your quote through Add to Event. Even more so when they book you. Because a lot of my work has come through friends or friends of friends so when a complete stranger books me it feels a bit more special.
Add To Event is a good way for couples to find and get quotes from suppliers all in one place. It must make it easier to compare and choose your wedding suppliers using Add To Event.
Due to the fact that I am fairly new to Add To Event and Covid-19 has paused life in general, I haven't been able to photograph any of the weddings I've been booked for through Add To Event. However, I'm hopeful the one booked for October will go ahead and I can't wait to get that couple on the beach for some wild seaside newly married portraits!
