What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me to be able to give a complete quote to a potential client, I need the date of the event, approximate number of people, the location of the event and what has brought them to seeking an event planner. That means that I can provide a clear quotation with my day rate/percentage rate (depending on the size of the event) and what my travel expenses would be. Then they know exactly what they are getting when they accept my quote, with no nasty surprises.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask to see examples of previous events. You can get a really good idea of the scale of the events that they have done in the past, their attention to detail and their design tastes. Ask them about what their ideal event brief would be. This is a fun open question for them, and also shows you how creative they can be on the spot. If you are looking for an event planner to run your event on the day, ask the planner to give an example of something that has gone wrong at a previous event, and how they handled it! If they are confident and resilient, they will give you an answer that will put you at ease. If in doubt, ask to be put in touch with one of their previous clients - this is particularly useful if you are requesting a planner for your wedding.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Amy Meadows Events was a twinkle in my eye for a few years before I was brave enough to launch. I ran an open air Shakespeare festival for a few years, as well as working as a wardrobe mistress for nationwide wedding fairs. Those two things together, along with my love of celebrating and bringing people together led me to start off on my own planning events with unique and fun briefs. I wanted to build a business that was experimental and playful, which is what I bring to every client and event that I work on.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
If I had to pick one, it would be a gorgeous wedding in Stratford-Upon-Avon. The bride found me on here and had no theme or plan for how to dress her venue, so we worked together to create a bright, bold, west-african inspired design. The day itself was magical, the sun shone and our design worked beautifully. The bride and I have stayed firm friends ever since! I recommend Add to Event to all of my friends in the industry - it has been invaluable for building up my business and meeting some incredible clients.
