About Chef Vanessa
Vanessa Marx is an award-winning South African-born chef with diverse experience. Trained at the prestigious Institute of Culinary Arts (ICA) in Stellenbosch, South Africa – Vanessa completed her apprenticeship in 2"006 under now-famous MasterChef SA judge Pete Goffe-Wood."
Vanessa prides herself on a sustainable and ethical approach to food.
An Ambassador for SASSI (South African Sustainable Seafood Institute), she actions her beliefs. The philosophy that she brings to the table is one of using local and seasonal produce, as well as creating dishes that speak to the seasons. She worked passionately on the creation of Dear Me Restaurant in 2009 and developed a 9-course food and wine pairing menu at The White Room. Vanessa's undeniable skill in the South African
market earned her the inaugural Rising Star Eat Out Award in 2013, followed by the placement o"f Dear Me’s ‘The White Room’ in the Top 20 restaurants in South Africa the year after."
Vanessa relocated to Port Elizabeth and was the creative behind popular eatery Savages Fine Food in its historical home and venue Victorian Veranda. Savages is still one of the top e"ateries in the city."
In 2016, Vanessa and her husband & business partner, Mark, moved to Johannesburg to set up their own business Culture Kitchen Catering & Food Truck. They worked across the country with premium brands such as Nederburg Wines, Mercedes Benz, Chanel, Mont Blanc, and Australian clothing brands Trenery & Country Road on private events creating high-end in-store e"xperiences, as well as appearances for Good Food & Wine show hosting live cooking theatres."
Vanessa relocated to the UK at the start of 2020, and is currently based in Greater London, holding a position as head chef and manager of Jack’s Mill venue & cafe."

Vanessa is a true professional!
Vanessa was a joy to work with - she suggested menu items appropriate for my baby boy's baptism and was flexible too, which was really helpful in the lead up to our day when I was waiting on final numbers. She also kept in communication, which was great and, most importantly, everyone loved the food! It was fresh, tasty and reasonable price wise. I would recommend Vanessa to anyone hosting an important family gathering! Thank you Vanessa!
Gorgeous food and so friendly
We had an informal garden party and bowl food. The flavours were delicious and Vanessa and her partner were fun, down to earth and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I’d definitely use them again
