What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The information we require in order to provide a comprehensive quote includes the event date and location, details about the venue, for example indoors or outdoors, whether there are onsite kitchen facilities or not, number of guests, type of service required such as table service, buffet, being served from a van/gazebo kitchen etc and a rough idea of the food you are looking for such as main courses only, canapes, starters/sides or desserts.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would always advise customers to ask about the background of the people who are providing the products they are offering. Many food traders enter the profession due to a love of the particular food they serve and this will often shine through in the food that they cook, but not all do - so asking about how and why they entered the business can, I think, give you an insight into how much care they will take over your event. All food traders should have a 5 star food hygiene rating from their local authority, and you will also want someone who has experience in doing similar events to yours, so I would advise asking them about this too.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
My passion for Thai food goes back 20 years to when I first went to Thailand and tasted its cuisine. I've always cooked, but exploring the country and its unbelievable food made an indelible impression on me that has lasted all these years. Over the years I learned to cook Thai food recipes both from teachers and also from just experimenting continuously at home. I lived in Thailand for three years and during this time I had two different teachers that showed me how Thai food works, and how to get the delicate balance of flavours right. Running ThaiAngle is a labour of love - I love cooking and I make every effort to ensure that all my customers love my food. While I do a lot of festivals and public events, I particularly enjoy private and corporate jobs where you can really focus on the specifics of what the client has asked for.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I've had a number of bookings through Add to Event. One that sticks out is a private party I did last year in mid-Sussex where we were asked to feed 100 guests as a leaving party for the family who were moving to Spain. We were set up in a big car port and we decorated it to look like a Thai beach shack, which was great fun. The party was pretty raucous, though sadly as I had to drive home I couldn't join in, but the food went down really well. Add to Event has been great for me as a trader, and I think it offers a really good service to customers as it allows you to get quotes from a range of food businesses all in one place, rather than searching for and then contacting everyone individually, which will save you a lot of time and effort.
