What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

As every event we do is bespoke we need to understand the likes and dislikes of the client. In most cases the child has a favourite colour or character that we use to design a party theme. If it is a birthday, how old will the child be? (If any children are under 3, in particular, we need to ensure that we don't have any small parts in our decorations or party favours).

The venue information is also important - will the event be at home or at a hired venue? How many people will be attending - will it be adults as well as children?

Whilst this information is sufficient for us to give a basic quotation, we always like to chat to the client directly to get a better understanding of their expectations.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

With any quotation from a party planner/event organiser/stylist, as the service that they offer is quite broad, you need to be clear on exactly what you are getting for your money. With a quotation we will always provide a list of the services we are going to provide with any specifics (e.g. dietary requirements for catering service). Don't pay a deposit until you have clear written confirmation that you are getting the services you have requested, as a minimum.

With all events, time is required to set up and dismantle an event. At Styled to Sparkle we take care of both aspects, but often party planners will not be involved in the clear up. Make it clear if you need this service provided. At the same time ask how long they will need to set-up, to ensure enough time has been allocated before the event, especially with hired venues.

For any children's party always ensure that they have had a DBS check, as we have. Even if the supplier is not an entertainer we would expect them to be able to give this level of reassurance to the parents.

At the end of the day your impression of the business counts for a lot. You will soon know if someone has passion and flair and can reassure you that your event will be in good hands!

For ten years I was a Childrenswear Buyer for a well-known retailer. Looking for a change of pace from travelling around the world, I wanted to create a brand that embraced my love of creativity and passion for interiors. My experience in children's fashion led me to create Styled to Sparkle - a totally unique business that brings style to the forefront of any child's birthday. Parents today want to capture every moment of their child's life on social media and we provide the perfect setting for their big day.
