Bob the Coffeeman
Bob the Coffeeman provides coffee from a mobile coffee car throughout Yorkshire and beyond. A black Smart Car converted into a mobile coffee bar provides everything needed to make large quantities of high quality coffee, with its small size enabling it to fit into places otherwise inaccessible to other, large vendors. The car comes with a black gazebo of 3 meters square, with its own power and water supply to enable it to be fully self-sufficient.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The customer needs to tell me the....When...Where...How many and possibly the Why the event is taking place. The nitty gritty comes later with exact timings and requirements, only when getting into conversation can the customer understand that the first profile is just an idea. I am very adaptable around coffee service!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
The customer needs to have an idea of what they really need from any provider. The provider will be able to ask the proper questions to ascertain if they can adapt to the customers needs for 'their' event. I sell coffee and know how I like to do it, the customer knows what they want and the two can go together to provide the perfect event.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have been 'in' catering all my life and eventually decided to leave a stressful position. I now work by myself, for myself with no need of staff and no head office above me. I can therefore provide just what the customer needs. I have always enjoyed good coffee and now I have a way of taking it with me to events.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Requests come thick and fast but once confirmed the secret is to keep up true and honest correspondence and on the day provide exactly what was asked for and promised. I recently was chosen by Teresa for an event in Barnard Castle. I knew I was going to be busy, and I was, possibly the most coffees made in one event in the coffee car lifetime (11 years), but I did it! Proving something to myself as the car managed, the stock was sufficient and I coped with a busy day and still smiled!
