What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For the event to be a success - the more detail I can get the better. For me it is a lot about the size, shape and feel of the venue as I use a couple of different sound systems to cater to differing sound and lighting needs. It is also handy to explain what music people like to listen to by genre rather than decade, as this is much more helpful when shaping a set, and it helps me to more easily identify the sort of clients who are going to enjoy what I offer the most.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

You want somebody who is passionate about what they are doing but also technically proficient - a good DJ needs to be both of these things. Well chosen and well maintained equipment can mean the difference between a great day and an average day (or even a catastrophic day!), however so can poor music choice or lack on engagement with the crowd. You need somebody who is capable, eager to make sure everyone has a good time and knows what they are doing.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

It happened very naturally, I have been DJing for around 11-12 years (although only about 8 as Felix Goldfinger!), including running my own night in Sheffield City Centre and taking on several residencies. The decision to set up as a business and offer my services to more people came later as I realised that was what I doing anyway! So many people told me that I should do it so I thought I ought to listen to them.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

Only this weekend went I played an 18th birthday in a very different venue to my usual fare, with completely different music to my usual style. It was challenging and exciting to play, and in the end I got everyone dancing and even a few of the younger members of the crowd came behind the decks for some DJ tips!

AddtoEvent has already hooked me up with several gigs otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to find. Although I am very new to the platform, Add to Event is already becoming a staple way that I find my work. It allows me to be specific in letting people know exactly what I do and how I operate, and I think that makes it easier to manage expectations - making sure people are getting what they want and that I'm getting the right clients.
