Retro DJ offer a DJ experience for weddings, birthdays, office parties and many other types of event covering Wiltshire and beyond. With full light shows, snow machines, fog machines, bubble machines, a projector and an extensive music database, you can be sure of a fully comprehensive DJ service.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
To provide an accurate quote to our potential customers we need to know their name, type of event i.e. wedding, anniversary, birthday etc so that we know what to offer. The location of the event (preferably with post code) is also helpful so that we can get info on the venue if needed, date, times required so that we can check availability, approximate number of guests as this gives us an idea of what type of equipment to use and contact information. Type of access to the venue to the venue is always good to know i.e. Is it ground floor or are there any stairs to negotiate?
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Here are just a few tips of mine for what you should look for:
The provider should at least have a good website. Read the testimonials but don't take them as gospel. If you really want to do some homework, contact the venues where they have performed and ask them as they have no reason to lie as it is their reputation also. Try not to get side tracked if they offer their own DJ service as they could be getting a commission
Make sure you speak to the provider. You can often tell if a person is interested in you or just want to grab the booking and take your money. Think of some questions to ask them and they should be able to answer them to your satisfaction. They should talk to you slowly and rationally without blurting everything out as fast as they can as this puts you under pressure which is something you do not need.
Unfortunately most DJ's claim to be professional but only around 20% actually are. A professional DJ will have many years of experience and not just be doing it to bring in some extra cash on the side. He or she ideally should be registered and full time. After all you would not go to a doctor or solicitor who did this as their second job.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Retro DJ started out nearly 25 years ago because of my passion for music but right from the very beginning I knew that if I was going to do this that I was not going to enter into it half-hearted. I strongly believe that the customer's needs are of the utmost importance if you want to be a success and will always do everything in our power to make their day one that they will always remember. I totally love my job and I love seeing my client's reactions from the service that I am providing. There is nothing more satisfying when often we receive a standing ovation at the end of the night. Most of our bookings are now from repeat customers and referrals.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
We have received several bookings through Add to Event and they have all been a huge success and the number is growing all of the time. Add to Event are growing at a rapid rate and would highly recommend using them if you want your own business to grow. There are some businesses that charge an absolute fortune for enquiries with no interest in the client what so ever and are only interested in taking the money but Add to Event are very reasonably priced and will send reminders to our clients for us plus we can keep in touch with them ourselves which I believe is the reason that they have been successful.
