Colour Ahead offers face painting mostly at children's parties, village and school fairs, company fun days and lately also at nightclubs. They are happy to have a go at any opportunity to paint on people! Read on for more plus some tips on choosing a similar provider.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
First I would need to know the event date and time. Then a brief explanation of the type of event it is (ie a birthday party, school fete, a family fun day), how many children (or adults!) you are expecting will attend and finally the exact location of where the event will be held.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When hiring a face painter I would first check examples of the painters work, it is nice if your guests can be impressed by the quality of painting they are getting! However, sometimes speed is more important than intricate detail; depending on the type of event you were organising you might want to know how fast they can realistically paint. How many faces will they actually be able to get through in a given time? It might be useful to know what their setup is like; how much space they will need and whether you would need to provide them with a table and chairs etc. If you would like the event to have a specific theme you should check if the painter is flexible and able to offer tailor-made designs to suit you.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
Like many face painters, I started painting as a parent helper at my daughter's primary school's Christmas and summer fairs. I'd previously studied Illustration and felt at home with the brushes and paints. One of the parents once asked me if I painted at birthday parties too and I thought; why not! In my day job, I am a school cook. I've always enjoyed the chance to interact with the many and various children I serve daily. This experience with children has translated well into my role as a face painter too.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Most of the bookings I've had through Add to Event have been for children's birthday parties. One of the last ones I had before Covid came and put a stop to all face painting was in January 2020 in Cambridge. The mum left me a lovely review on Add to Event saying how pleased she and the birthday girl had been with my set-up and the painting. Receiving thanks and compliments for my work is one of the reasons I love doing it!
I think Add to Event is a very useful service. I have a regular stream of requests coming in for face painting jobs; this platform is keeping my business profile up there and easily accessible for potential customers. The layout is good with all the necessary event and customer information and correspondence well organised and easy to view.
