What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
We would like to provide an accurate quote for your event, so we need the following information - date of the event, number of people, venue, inside or outside, upstairs or downstairs, type of event, start and finish times, and any special request such as music style. That way we can give you the most accurate price possible.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would make sure that the mobile disco company you choose has lots of good reviews and that they are taking their legal obligations seriously, such as having an up to date PAT & PLI. It would also be a good idea to check how new their equipment is.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have been involved with mobile discos since leaving school. I started as a roadie for a friend which involved setting up, packing down, operating the lights and occasionally taking control of the decks.
Then rolled on the Millennium! It had been a few months since I had anything to do with discos when I had a phone call from a friend. There was a venue in Cannock that was looking for a DJ for the Millennium New Years Eve party. There was only a couple of month to go and everyone was booked up. DJs had come out of retirement just for this one night. My friend asked if I could help - he had spare equipment and he was confident that I was capable. I was not so confident, but reluctantly I agreed. Well that's where I first got the bug! Within a couple of weeks I had negotiated with my full time employer an early bonus and purchased my own setup. A few friends and agencies soon started passing me work, then venues starting asking for me by name. It's rolled on from there since.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
My favourite booking that I received through Add to Event was a wedding at The Silk Mill in Derby. I was not the cheapest quote but did offer the best service. After months of conversations with the wedding planner and the venue I helped their day go just as they wanted. It was a long day but such a good one. They chose my platinum wedding package and gave me a great review, which is always lovely.
