What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
For me to provide an accurate quote to a potential client I would ideally require - date, time, estimated guest numbers, all venues on the day (including wherever any prep was taking place - is it at a different location?) A brief summary of the plans for so far for the day is also particularly helpful in terms of getting a sense of who the client is from the outset.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Once you have a look around and see the different styles of Photographers available for your day - narrow down to your favourites! My top tip is to book a meeting or a zoom call (which I actually love doing!) with your favourite Photographers in your ideal style and see how well you vibe! Do they make you feel at ease and confident that they are the right person to fit your day? Your images are going to be with you for a lifetime and are one of the only lasting reminders of your day!
Ask to see a full previous gallery. It is not important that a Photographer has shot at your exact venue before - a good Photographer will always research your venue and what it has available for images in all eventualities on the day.
If you find someone you love... book them! Sometimes your favourite suppliers book up a couple of years in advance so as soon as you have a venue and date secured that's when your search should begin.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I have always had a love of capturing memories. When I was young my dad would give us a new disposable camera every weekend when he picked us up. We'd use them to document our days together and then pop them into the local store for developing and pick the results up the following week. Sometimes they would be filled with birthday gatherings, or attempts at making the biggest snowmen. Other times they would just be random photos of the dog or whatever "artwork" we had created that day. The thing I didn't fully realise until I was a teenager, was that these little moments are never fully appreciated until that is all we have left as memories. A photograph. A tangible memory. Something we can hold in our hand and be reminded of a feeling, a moment, a person.
I went on to study Photography at college - because although I was mostly self taught - I thought it was the done thing.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I have had a few bookings through Add To Event and all that have taken place so far have been incredible with super lovely people.
One wedding that stands out was C+L's winter wedding - They welcomed me into their magical Christmas / Home Alone themed day and their family and friends were all fab to work with. It was just such a fabulous atmosphere and it was great to celebrate with a couple who planned their day, THEIR way. We embraced the snow and got some beautiful shots - which I have been told that they love as much as I do. And that's what it's all about at the end of the day - creating a day that is all about you and your relationship with images that show the same.
