Quizking offers fully hosted, fully equipped, bespoke quizzes for events throughout London and beyond. Though many quizzes are a mixture of general knowledge with a bit of specialist stuff thrown in, Quizking can also offer custom designed quizzes on whatever topic you like. With so much flexibility, quizzes are suitable for personal or corporate purposes, from weddings to teambuilding exercises.
What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
The basics of a good, accurate quote are of course date, venue, and numbers expected to attend. It's useful to know what the event is "for" - be it team building, a leaving do, just a party, or maybe a charity fund-raising event (we offer a discount rate for most charities, so do mention this). We also usually arrange a site visit before the event to check on equipment at the venue, and to see if we need to bring extra kit along.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Do some basic research - google is your friend, and your own colleagues may know of the sort of quiz events that they enjoy or take part in regularly. If you're based in central London, they might have taken part in one of our quizzes already. Know what sort of quiz you want and ask for it; we can provide bespoke material, if for example you run a sports club, you might just want a specialist sports quiz - if you run channel 6 TV, you won't want lots of questions about channel 6 TV - if you are an accountancy firm, you may want some finance related questions, or most probably would prefer a general fun quiz avoiding work topics altogether!
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I decided to run my own business while on a world tour, planning what to do with the rest of my life. It's a hobby that turned into a business; I had always taken part in pub quizzes, and covered for quizmasters on holiday leave. 30 odd years later, through ups and downs, TV and radio shows, over 150 venues and more than 6000 gigs, I am still here - yay! Books and websites are offshoots, but it's really still a lucrative hobby. If you enjoy what you do, it's not really "work".
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
Oh yes, I would happily recommend Add to Event to others, and indeed have done so already. One booking springs to mind because it didn't go well at first, but we made it work - a charity event for an estate agents in north London, at a bar that was close to their office. It was one of the first bookings I had taken through Add to Event. Despite a site visit earlier, it became clear that the bar manager didn't know how the venue sound equipment worked; for a few moments it looked as though I might have to run the quiz without a microphone - and maybe even improvise an acapella music round. But thanks to quick thinking, spare leads in my box of tricks, and a swiss army knife, all was fixed and the gig ran smoothly after all. Over £4000 was raised for the charity, and a good time was had by all. (Note to any prospective clients, if you do use a local bar for your event, do let me know if their sound equipment is a bit dodgy!). Looking forward to more events through this site - all good so far. Quiz all the things.
