What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
Initially, I need your event details such as date and timings, the kind of event and type of guests you expect - in fact all the details you can give me. I would like details about the venue, as it can make all the difference if I know in advance where in a room I'm to set up or what you envisage when you walk into your wedding ceremony. If you have particular musical ideas or themes, or would like me to sing special songs, please ask me as soon as possible so I can have them well rehearsed for you. I like to talk all these things through with you so we can get a good feel for your event and get it right!
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask vocalists about the kind of events they sing for, are they versatile or do they stick to one type of genre? Are they happy to rehearse on the day without meeting an organist in advance, will they need to attend a wedding rehearsal for instance? Ask how much notice your singer needs to learn your special song(s). Be clear about what you are getting for the fee. Ask your singer in advance if you would like to use their microphone to make a speech or announcements. Most singers will set up a second mic for you; for hygienic reasons they don't like to share their own mics which are usually quite expensive also!
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I feel privileged to sing for all sorts of different events. I have sung for weddings, funerals, large family parties and babies naming days and baptisms. Songs and music have such personal associations for individuals at times and I get to bring connections to life for them. Equally, I get to entertain groups of people that may, or may not, know each other at events, parties and gatherings in amazing venues or family gardens and homes! I still have to pinch myself sometimes that I get to sing for my supper!
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
I was so pleased to be asked to sing for a much loved mum's funeral. Once the booking was confirmed I was quickly able to gather as much information as I could so the family did not feel a complete stranger was with them on the day.
