What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?
In order to provide an accurate quote I would need to know the location, capacity of the venue, whether the event is indoors or outdoors, and the total amount of time they wish me to perform and be on site for.
What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
1) I would ask how flexible they can be. Many musicians have enough songs to perform a couple of hours worth of music, but not an extensive enough repertoire to change the songs they play based on their audience. Also if you're booking a wedding or a birthday, you want to know that they'll be able to play songs that are special to you.
2) Ask about the equipment they provide. Many solo and duo performers have relatively inexpensive setups that are not suited to larger venues. Check up on the equipment they say they have and whether it provides enough power for your venue.
3) Overall I'd ask them to provide reviews. What matters most is whether or not they deliver a professional and entertaining service. Anybody that's been doing this well for a while will have some decent reviews expressing that they can do this.
Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.
I've been performing with bands for years, and continue to do so, but have always loved the flexibility of performing solo. The ability to change a set list on the fly as an event develops, to play a wider variety of events where a full band may not be appropriate, and to do things entirely in a way that makes my clients, and me, happy. With this in mind, I set myself up as a solo performer in 2017, and almost immediately was inundated with bookings.
Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?
One I really enjoyed was a birthday party/festival at Stratford on Avon racecourse. The whole set up was brilliant, two stages so that the multiple bands could set up while another was playing, free burgers and a great crowd. One woman in the audience was drinking out of an offensive mug with a particularly rude word pointing in my direction which drew some big laughs from the rest of the crowd. The whole audience was open to a bit of chatter as well as really loving the music which always makes for a great show.
The Add to Event booking experience made it really easy to organise and stay on top of the details of the booking.
